Show Wi-Fi Password with CMD


Wi-Fi Password Cracking has been one of the most talk tech issues, from the WEP  encryption to the WPA2.

In this How To we will be obtaining the passwords for all connected networks using CMD. This article is for

  • You when you have forgotten the password of the router or the wireless network you are or have connected to and
  • You just want to know the password
Now you know why you landed here, let's start.

  1. Run Command Prompt In Elevated (Administrators Mode)
In Windows 8 and 10 
  • Click on the Windows Icon and
    Type CMD in the search box below
  • Right Click on Command Prompt  as it
    appears and select run as Administrator
In Windows 7 or Earlier Versions
  •  Click on the Start Menu and type CMD
  • Right Click on Command Prompt and
    Run as Administrator








    2. Type Netsh Wlan Show Profiles in the Command Window 
          and press Enter
     
        This command displays a list of Wireless Connections available on your system. The profile                display is associated with the Wi-Fi name you have connected to before. So in my case I want to
        show the password for Y220-U00. Note the network you want to show the password, we will be
        using it in our next step.

       3. Tpye netsh wlan show profiles Wi-Fi name and hit enter. 
           Replace Wi-Fi name with the profile name you wanted to show its password in the previous
           step. In my case my command will be netsh wlan show profiles Y220-U00. 
           Its shown below.

    3. Notice the highlighted option in the image above. you will see that the network has a security
        key so it shows present . If no security key is found, it will be absent . Bingo, our network has
        password we can show. Our last Step.
        Type netsh wlan show profiles Wi-Fi name key=clear and hit enter. Replace Wi-Fi name with
       your preferred network name as explained above. In my case , my command will be netsh wlan
       show profiles Y220-U00 key=clear.  Done Your Security key is shown below where it says key
       is present. Check in the image below. Use it and connect to the network.

Your Wi-Fi password is now visible, you it as you wish.
