Amazon Appstore Offers 'Actually Free' Paid Games and In-App Purchases in India For Limited Period

Amazon Appstore for Android has been upgraded with an 'Actually Free' section that lets you download paid Android games for free. The new section also offers unlocked in-game purchases to offer you an entirely free gaming experience on your Android device. You need to download the all-new Amazon Appstore app to get free games. Notably, Actually Free games on the Amazon Appstore app are available in India only for a limited time - three months to be precise.

Through the Actually Free section, Amazon is offering free download and play games with all in-app items, levels, and upgrades available at no additional cost. There are Actually Free games from a variety of categories, namely Adventure, Action Games, Paid Games for Free, Games with Free In-app Purchases, Racing Games, Chart Toppers, Play & Learn, Educational Games, Word Games, and Card Games among others. Also, you can find titles such as Epic Cricket, Fruit Ninja Classic, Dan The Man, Superheroes Car Racing, Cut the Rope: Magic, Flow Free, Go, and Age of Zombies.

"Amazon is always looking for ways to surprise and delight our customers. We are excited to offer hundreds of premium apps and games, including in-app purchases, absolutely for free. This limited 3-month offer is available from our Appstore on any Android phone," an Amazon spokesperson said.

Notably, the Actually Free tagline that Amazon is using is actually part of the company's Amazon Underground app store. This was launched back in 2015, with the same concept of free paid apps and free in-app purchases. However, back in May last year, the company said it would discontinue support for the Actually Free programme from 2019, while access to the service ended last year. It appears the company is bringing it to India before sunsetting it completely, perhaps with the motivation to introduce the Indian market to the Amazon Appstore for Android.

While the games listed under the Actually Free section on the Amazon Appstore are totally free, Amazon serves ads to support game developers. Furthermore, not all over 700,000 apps and games on the Appstore app are a part of the Actually Free section. This means your favourite title may come with a price tag.

You need to download the updated Amazon Appstore on your Android devices to start playing paid games for free. To download, visit Amazon's Actually Free page and then tap Get Amazon Appstore. Once the Appstore app is downloaded, you may need to enable 'Unknown Sources' by going to the settings menu of your device. It is worth pointing out here that each of the games that you pick from the Amazon App Store will also need to be installed as an unknown source since you are not downloading them directly from Google Play.

Alongside the Actually Free section as the key highlight, the Amazon Appstore app has been revamped for Indian users. This was introduced in the US in October last year and includes a new simplified interface to make it easy for users to discover new apps and games. The Appstore app (version 31.31.0000) also has download limit to help users save their limited mobile data. Plus, there is a parental control option that once enabled asked Amazon password or a PIN to purchase in-app items. The Appstore app additionally has a unified My Apps tab that provides access to all the downloaded apps, updates, and ongoing subscriptions.
